Do You Have a Website Which Isn’t Working For You?
Would You Like a New Website?
There are many types of websites; business, personal, blogging, shop, informational, members only or other types of website. If you are thinking about updating an existing or creating a brand new website there is a lot to be thinking about.
I have been developing professional websites since 1995 so am well placed to help you get the most out of your investment in your brand.
Is your website secure? To make communications between your website and your visitors’ browsers secure you are strongly encouraged to buy and install an SSL certificate so visitors to your website can see the https:// secure message in their browser …
Effective July 2018, Google’s Chrome browser will mark non-HTTPS sites as ‘not secure’. This might deter potential customers from visiting your website.
Is your website Responsive? Responsive means that it displays well on mobile phones & tablets as well as larger displays. Google checks for this and penalises sites which are not responsive which means that it is very unlikely that the website will appear on the 1st page in search results.
Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). People often receive emails by companies offering to get your website on the first page of Google. Not possible. You will be wasting your money. Reputable companies will offer to optimise your website for search engines. This means ensuring that it can be found if people use the correct search terms. Note that SEO only works if the website is responsive and the content is of good quality and relevant.
Is your website protected against hacking and virus attacks? Just like computers, websites need to be protected against, hacking and virus attacks. Last year we were called in to repair a hacked site which has been hi-jacked and turned into a secret shop selling illegal material. The only obvious side-effect was that it became very slow to respond. Managing sites to prevent attack is highly skilled and should only be carried out by professionals.
Social Media. Websites can be integrated with Twitter and Facebook such that posts are displayed on the website, perhaps in a column at the side.
Every website requires a unique domain name. This can be ‘rented’ through official Registrars like 1and1 and GoDaddy. You can search for available names on their sites. Prices vary greatly. It is common to register more than one name to prevent copycats. For example newbusiness.co.uk, newbusiness.com & new-business.co.uk etc.
Hosting. Your website will be physically located on a hosting company’s web-server. This is often the same company you used to register the name but it doesn’t have to be.
